Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is a biopic that director Eric Appel told Entertainment Weekly is “98 percent fiction and 2 percent fact.”  In other iterations of the movie’s script, that 98 percent fiction part of the story went to some really speculative places, including other times and other universes.

In that same EW interview, Appel shared some ideas that didn’t quite make it into the film, where Daniel Radcliffe gives an enthusiastic performance as Weird Al himself.

“I think at one point I may have pitched time travel or meeting multiple versions of Al from different universes,” Appel, who wrote the film’s script with Yankovic, told EW. “That was a little too far. Maybe we’ll do a sequel. We can use some of those crazier ideas.”

While Weird doesn’t feature any multiverses, it does include a stellar cast. In addition to Radcliffe as Al, it stars the real Al Yankovic as the boss of a record label, a part he played before in the original Funny or Die short. It also includes Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna (a part that Appel described as “the idea of Madonna, or what conservative parents thought Madonna was probably like in the ’80s”), Rainn Wilson as Yankovic’s mentor, Dr. Demento, and Jack Black as the disc jockey, Wolfman Jack.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is now available for your viewing pleasure on the Roku Channel.
